I'm Thinking of You Butterflies

This weekend I did two new things.  I made a shaker card (see Cricut Card Monday #3) and I tried using my markers to make matching elements for a card.  I never can find lace or matching gems to go with my card stock .  So, since I was already coloring the butterflies for this project, I decided to color the lace and the gems.  I think they came out pretty close to the correct color.  The gems are not as dark as the photo indicates. 

The card stock was a dark mauve.  I dyed the white lace with a dark maroon Sharpie marker.  On the gems, I needed to put a layer of maroon and then a layer of brown.  The maroon made the clear gems too red.

My butterflies were silver and white glitter stick-ons (a generic Dazzle).  I used maroon, red, brown, green and pink Sharpies to color them.  The maroon on the silver came out copper colored.

This was fun and I am pleased with the results.  So, I think I will be making more "matching" elements.

For My Love

Paper Playtime's Challenge is to use only Black, White and Silver. I used the same papers (less the red) from the Two Simple Words card to make a different flowery card.

I used dazzles to take away the starkness of the black.  Silver rick rack is layered over the white lace and I used some to resemble stems on the inside of the card.  Smokey and crystal gems are scattered throughout the dazzles.  "For My Love" and "hugs & kisses" are clear stamps I picked up at Michaels and they are stamped with black ink.

Two Simple Words

This is my entry for Cricut Cardz Challenge #57- use the colors red, black and white only.

Here are the construction details:

I used these papers.  The solid black, red and white are Bazzil and the black polka dot is DCWV either stack 6 or 7.

For the card base I used the Smiley Cards Cartridge and the Daisy (I call it butter cookie) card.

There are a few steps to alter the card base itself to make the whole card -

First: I used the hide detail button on the Gypsy to remove the large circle in the middle of the right side part of the card.  It was way to big for what I wanted. 

Second: I picked the circle cut from George and Basic Shapes, and replaced the large circle with a 2" circle.  I welded these together and cut the card.

Third: I copied this image to the next layer tab and moved the card base to the left so only the flower on the right side was showing.  I added another circle from George that would fit just inside the scallops of the flower.  This will be used on the inside of the card.

Fourth: I copied the flower top again and reduced the size by .25" as a white liner for the base.  I removed the 2" circle from the center.  This is also for the inside of the card.

Then I made the doilies.  They are cut from the Holiday Cakes Cartridge.

I followed the same steps to replace the large circle in the center with the 2" circle.  I made one doily larger than the other so they could be layered.

I know it sounds like a lot of steps, but the longest part of this card was to make sure all the little circles in the doilies were removed!

Cricut Card Monday #2

Ok, so it's Tuesday :(  sorry.   I entered this at Top Tip Tuesday Challenge.

I had to really step out of my comfort zone on this one.  These are not the colors I am the most fond of, but I just love this saying, and it came printed on the green/purple card stock.  So here's the paper I started with.

I picked a card base from Paisley - cut at 5.5" x 11"

I didn't want the small cuts to show (I think they distract from the folds on the cards and are ragged looking).  So I used one of my favorite features on the Gypsy to hide elements of the design.

So now I have the card to cut without the small slits

The saying came on a rectangular card that was 3.75" by 4.25".  I wanted to frame it for the front of the card.  So I used two elements from George and Basic shapes to make the frame.

The outside of the frame is the square and the inside is the rounded poly gram directly under it.

I joined them together and cut it out.

Now this card is a tri-fold, so I wanted the frame to fit on the far left of the front of the card.

The green semi circle on the right is the slot the shuts the card together.

Here is a closeup of the front of the card:

When you open the card these is 11" of inside.  I only placed the purple wood grain paper in the center.  I added a cutout to the left side for a design element. This would make a great card for OWH.  There is plenty of room on the inside for the sender to write a message.  Or it would be a great way to send a photo.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, so I've left it blank.

Don't you just love this heart?  It looks like a frosted cake or a porcelain plaque.

The green paper and the tag are from an old collection of papers I had in my stash.  Flavia is the designer. The flowers are from Prima and the gems are from Michaels.  The heart is also an old piece from my stash.
