Cricut Card Monday #5

I needed a masculine get well card for a relative who had extensive surgery and is facing a long recovery time.  When I saw this card in the Wrap It Up Cartridge, I had to make it since he loves cars.

It's a standard A2 portrait with  5.5" as the width.  I cut the card out of Craft card stock.  The background paper is from DCWV Flower Shower stack.  The brown, orange, olive and yellow are from a Recollections stack of 4.5" by 6.5" Fall colors.  I made the road using My Community Cartridge and I kerned it on my gypsy.  [There's a video on kerning here KERNING.  The car is cut at 3.5", the road was 2.5" before kerning.  I laid a strip of white under the cuts to make it look like the center of the road.

 Here's a closer look at the car.  I didn't put to much bling on it, just four nail heads and a few silver beads.

 The font is Road Race and I made the saying fit road side assistance.

The green car in the inside is actually the image to use for the tag.  I just made it 1.75" by 3".

How do you spend two days snowed in with the family?

I make cards in the basement!  Six people, 1 internet connection and 1 TV everyone wants to watch.  I just spent my time in the craft area downstairs and came up with my next batch of OWH cards.  These are very simple cards.  I just took papers from the DCWV Flower Shower stack and started combining colors and images.  There are only three that I used the Cricut to make.  The rest were punches.  Let's see if you can tell the difference.  Sorry there are so many shadows in the pictures.

So which ones are Cricuts?
Numbers 6, 7, and 11.  Numbers 6, 7 are cuts from Plantin Schoolbook and 11 is a card cut from Life's a Beach.

Number 4 is a Cuttlebug die cut, the rest were hand punches.  On #10 those little purple tulips were punched from one of those tiny punches Michaels has in their dollar bin.  I glued them into the beige dots.  Kinda looks like ribbon. This is a great stack of papers.   The owls, birds "love cross stitch" and flowers are all parts of the paper stack.  I needed the bright colors to cheer me up - at least until we had to start shoveling!!

New Techniques

Sorry I've been absent for a while.  I'm teaching myself some new technique to use on my paper crafts.
I started with this: card:

This is my first Yo-Yo flower in over 45 years!  Wow how old am I!!! LOL  I'll tell you they were a lot easier to make before the arthritis and poor vision set into my life.  Here's a close up of the flower:

I started with a 3" square of cotton fabric, 10" of straight lace, button thread, and a 3/4" button.  The hardest part? Tying the thread bow!  I probably wasted 18" of thread, but my fingers are not conducive to small bows - let alone tying with thread.  I made the flower then gathered the lace and glued it to the back of the flower using score tape.  The button is glued to the front of the flower to hide the gathers.

The other technique on this card is the black "lace".  Here is a close up:

This started out as plain black Recollections card stock.  I punched a 6" wide piece of card with the MS lacy hearts border punch.  I trimmed the piece to 5.25" by 1.75".  Then I ran it through my Xyron machine.  I used a black glitter that has pink glitter highlights.  (It came in a box of small interlocking bottles of glitter in 20 shades.  I bought it a Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago.) I pressed the glitter down firmly to make sure it covered the card stock.  Then I went back with a needle and reopened all the holes in the hearts that were filled in with glue and glitter.

This gorgeous pin came from June over at Lina Beas she makes fantastic pins and beautiful paper art.  Thank you June and have a great time on your Cruise.

The pleated velvet ribbon was the inspiration for this card.  I bought it at Walmart along with a package of valentine buttons that included the two white hearts.  I used a very thin strip of black paper to "thread them".  The simple stamp - came from a $1.00 clear stamp set at Michaels.  The paper and it's all one sheet, came from a bundle of paper from Big Lots.  The loop border actually goes all around the 8" square.  I chose to use just a section without a corner.

Cricut Card Monday #4

As much as I complain about the snow, I must admit I love beauty of the cardinals in my snow covered pines.  This is a different approach to Cricut Card Monday.

I used a very, basic card - A rectangle from George cut at 8.5" by 5.5".  The light blue card stock is cut at 4.0" by 5.25".  I chalked around the edges and the center with a brighter blue shimmer chalk. 

The focal of the card is the branch frame from the Home Decor cartridge. I picked 3 different cardinal images from the 50 States cartridge, cut them in red and shadowed them in black. I used a yellow gel pen to highlight the beaks and feet' and a green gel pen to highlight just the center of the leaves on the branch frame.  Then I placed light green tinted pearls around the branches where there were berries.  The two snowflakes in the center are from Michaels and are glue dotted onto the card stock.  Here are the gypsy screen shots.

The frame is located on the second row, tenth column.

This shot shows the dimensions of the branch frame, and cardinal images-cut at 1.5".

This is a picture of the birds that 50 States offers.  I am truly amazed at the amount of imagery on this cartridge.  I would highly suggest it as a purchase if you like birds and flowers.

I am sending this to my cousin who is going in for a difficult surgery.  He loves birds and I thought these cardinals might cheer him up.

Snowman Card Challenge

Well, it's snowing AGAIN!  I know if you live in northwest Indiana this is way to early in the winter season to be complaining about snowfall.  But I have a 500+ foot driveway to shovel since our snowblower gave out.  So yuck!!!!!!!  I always knew that snow blower was a coward.

Anyway
Cricut Cardz Challenge #58 is a Snowman Card Challenge.  I was nice, and chose a sweet card with a smiling snowman even though right now I'd like to plow him over.  So here's my entry from the Pooh and Friends cartridge.

Isn't he cute.  The snowman is an "ICON" on the cartridge.  There's a screen shot of the gypsy further down to show where he is located.  It really has no details or layers, so I used chalk to give him dimension and to make the arms have some color.  I used a Peachy Keen stamp for his "cute little face"  I still want to plow him ... er I mean hug him.  Pooh is just the one layer. I used a black gel pen to highlight his face and other features.  The snow drift is from Everyday Paper Dolls.  It is one of the scenery images on the bottom row.  I put a screen shot of the gypsy below to locate. it.  Pooh, his shirt and the snowman were cut at 3.5".  The snow drift was cut at 5.5".  The snowflakes are buttons from Michaels, and the background paper is DCWV Stack #7.  Oh, yeah.  For the inside of the card I thought this was really appropriate...

 The snow is the last image of the last row.  It's probably hills, but I thought it made a great drift.

 The snowman is on the fourth row, four column over.

 The Pooh image is the first row, fourth column - you use layer 1 shift to get the shirt.

Oh, well back to shoveling.

Cupcake Challenge at CardzTV

Sweet, sweet Mary is having a card challenge at CardzTV.  She wants cupcake cards.  Me, being a true friend and lover of anything sweet, felt really obliged to make her a chocolate cupcake - card that is.  Hmm, wonder if I could get a real cupcake to her?  Anyway here's my entry.

 I used the cupcake from Smiley Faces.  I had fun using all kinds of tools.  I used my corrugater to make the cupcake wrapper.  I used the Cuttlebug "Divine Swirls" to make the frosting and the surprise inside the card.  I used Glossy Accents to make the swirls, music notes and dots shinny.  The cupcake wrapper and frosting are mounted on foam tape.

 And what does make this cupcake sing?

Well, ice cream of course!  I used the frosting cut again in white for the ice cream.  The bowl is cut from the A Child's Year cartridge.  I removed the spoon from the image.  It was too small!  The cut makes a slit in the bowl which worked out really nice to slide in the ice cream.  I had to trim just a little bit from the bottom of the ice cream so it wouldn't show out the bottom of the bowl.

The papers are from the DCWV Stack #7 and Craft card stock.  The strawberry is a sticker from the Dollar Tree.  I inked the edges with a cocoa "cat's eye pad"  I hope you can tell the difference between the "Glossy Accents" papers on the front and the same paper on the inside that I did not enhance. It's really cloudy here - and snowing again, to the pictures are not the greatest.  Here are the Gypsy screen shots:

Paper Playtime Challenge #34

All you need is "L O V E" at the Paper Playitme Challenge #34  I wanted to use some new cuts from my Cricut cartridges and this is what I came up with.

Cuts:
"Celebrate Love" is from Lyrical Letters.  It includes the heart border along the bottom.
Birds and heart image is from Holiday Cakes.
The papers are from DCWV Stack #6 and white card stock.

I added a bit of lace along the bottom, a few jewels, and white stitching on the shadow parts of the birds and around the card.
